The world’s oldest whisky is being sold in Calgary & you won’t believe how much a single bottle costs

Whisky may not be our favorite, but we can appreciate how long it takes to make the stuff. Some, of course, are more deserving of our admiration than others and if Gordon and MacPhail’s super fancy single malt Scotch whisky isn’t one of them, we don’t know what is.

At 80-years perfected, this incredibly rare spirit is considered the world’s oldest whisky and soon, it’ll be available in Calgary.

With an INSANE price tag of $140,000.00 CAD, only three of the globe’s 249 bottles have been released to Canada and Kensington’s Wine market made their very exclusive distribution list.

“Distilled on February 3, 1940, in the midst of World War II, the spirit was casked in oak by George Urqhart at the Glenlivet Distillery in Scotland, with the intention for it to be consumed well after his lifetime,” they wrote in a press release.

“80 years later, the cask was deemed ready to be tapped and shared with the world.”

In celebration of this, the store will be holding a big unveiling ceremony this week, Wednesday, April 27th, which will be open to booze connoisseurs and whisky enthusiasts.

“It is an honor to have been given the privilege of introducing this rare whisky to the Alberta market,” said Andrew Ferguson, Owner, of Kensington Wine Market.

“The whisky, matured for very literally a lifetime, is a piece of liquid history, setting a new milestone for the Scotch industry!”
