U of T ranks among the best universities in the world

Canada’s education system is top-tier, especially when it comes to our universities. In Toronto, we’re home to some of the most renowned educational institutions, particularly the University of Toronto. So we’re not surprised that they made this year’s annual World University Rankings by Subject for 2024.

Global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds is behind the annual ranking, listing the best schools by subject.

This year’s edition features 55 individual subjects across five areas – academic and employer reputation taken from a large global survey, research citations per paper, H-index, and international research network.

In the world, 1,559 institutions have been ranked, with the addition of 64 universities that were not added to 2023 list.

“With rising global inflation, geo-political instability and general elections in 50+ countries, supporting higher education and international student mobility has never been more critical as it drives innovation and societal advancement,” shared QS Senior Vice President Ben Sowter.

“QS’ largest ever-university comparative analysis highlights the importance of diversity, research partnerships, investment, and cross-border academic and industry collaborations.”

As for Canadian universities, 32 of them were mentioned.

For Toronto universities, U of T came in 10th under Arts & Humanities, 12th under Social Sciences & Management, 19th under Natural Sciences, 13th under Life Sciences & Medicine and 17th under Engineering and Technology.

Other Toronto universities that managed to squeeze into the list include York University and Toronto Metropolitan University.

Other Canadian schools mentioned include the University of Alberta, Queen’s University, McGill University, McMaster University, and more.

But once again, U of T remains on top of its game and continues to raise the bar for Canada’s post-secondary schools.
