In case you needed another reason to visit Steveston and stroll the pier area, we’ve found one. The historic fishing village has once again transformed for the holidays, with twinkling Christmas light displays to stroll, warm sips and local bites, and festivities aplenty.
Until Dec. 31, visitors can check out the area’s decorated historic sites, which include the transformed historic Steveston Tram, which has been all decked-out for the holidays.
Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except on Mondays and stat holidays), the winter tram now has a junior tram conductor dress-up station for families to check out, and plenty of ways to learn the history of interurban travel in Richmond back in the day.
In addition to curated festive drinks, visitors can indulge in a feast for the eyes at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, which is hosting the “Festival of Trees,” a friendly competition to see which local merchant/organization has put up the best Christmas tree of the year.
Visitors can vote for their favourite tree by visiting the cannery ($13.25 for GA), or voting through social media.
If you’re keen on checking it out sooner rather than later, you might even catch Santa’s arrival by boat (Sunday, Dec. 8)!
Here are just some special events to look forward to this weekend and the coming week:
So there you have it, Vancouver! You don’t have to journey far to enjoy this holiday celebration.
How to get there: Drive 27 minutes from Vancouver via Granville Street and No 2 Road.
