If you’re a lover of all things outdoors and are looking to spend some time outside this winter, why not try winter camping? There are a number of Ontario parks that offer up cozy campsites ready for your arrival!

Algonquin is known as the busiest Ontario Park, maybe because this beautiful spot offers camping year-round!
Algonquin has 131 electrical and non-electrical sites for every type of camper. If you’re an avid camper and want to try out their winter-permitted park backcountry – it is accessible by ski, snowshoe, or dog sled. Backcountry camping can be reserved up to five months in advance through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service.
Fees start at $42.38 per night.
Where: Hwy 60, P.O. Box 219, Whitney, ON
This popular national park in Tobermory is the perfect place to pitch a tent.
You can book online for front-country camping at the Tamarack section of Cyprus Lake Campground and backcountry campsites at Stormhaven and High Dump Campgrounds.
Nightly fees begin at $24.

The Pinery, located in Grand Bend, has some great winter camping spots and winter activities!
Their Riverside Area 1 campground has lots of availability for single-tent camping, including coming up in January. The Pinery recommends you check out their winter activities such as their outdoor skating rink and bird watching at the P9 picnic shelter to experience a winter birding hotspot.

Another great option if you want to brave the cold in a tent this winter.
Macgregor Point has availability for campsites you can pitch a tent on – just don’t forget your winter gear! Camping costs start at $47.50 per night.
Where: 1593 Bruce Rd 33, Port Elgin, ON
The perfect spot for a winter camping trip.
Killbear has spots where you can camp all winter long in either tents or RVs/cars. This campground is located a little more north in the Parry Sounds region so don’t forget to bundle up a little extra! Book your stay starting at $47.50 a night.

Ontario Parks offers a guide on Winter Camping 101, so if you are unsure about camping in the winter or aren’t sure what to bring, this list is for you. Some of their tips include what you need to bring, such as a four-season tent, a sleeping bag (rated to at least -15°C), a mattress or pad to protect you from frozen ground, a cook stove, and a first aid kit.
