Cheers: You can now purchase wine & groceries together at Vancouver stores

It’s a day of sunshine and great news, Vancouver. Following the City’s announcement to expand its Drinking in Public Plazas program, the City Council just passed a new motion approving wine-on-shelf sales, making purchasing wine at Vancouver grocery stores much easier!

The new update will allow Vancouver to replace the “store-within-a-store” model that a few grocery stores in the city currently have in place, like Whole Foods on Cambie and West 8th. In its place? A model akin to that in North Vancouver, Surrey, Langley & more – which allows patrons to purchase their wine and groceries at the same till. With valid ID, of course!

Submitted by Councillor Klassen, the motion was passed unanimously on Wednesday, April 12th following two council meetings on April 11th and 12th.

“Given the non-problematic success of the wine-on-shelf model for grocery stores as seen across the province, it is timely for Council to revisit the wine-on-shelf model for grocery stores in Vancouver and the policy implemented in 2017,” reads the motion.
