Two of Washington’s 6 giant hand built trolls have been revealed and here’s what we know

Seattle’s Fremont Troll has some new friends thanks to an ambitious public art project by Danish environmental artist, Thomas Dambo. Six giant hand built trolls are coming to the Pacific Northwest, each with its own underlying environmental story. Two of which have recently been unveiled in Washington and here’s what we know.

The six trolls are each set to be located at yet to be disclosed locations. The Washington trolls will be in Issaquah, West Seattle, Ballard, Bainbridge Island, and Vashon Island. The sixth troll will be in Portland, Oregon.

The first three trolls of the project have been unveiled in Portland, Oregon and on Bainbridge Island and in West Seattle’s Lincoln Park. Oregon’s troll is named Ole Bolle and is located in south west Portland.

Bainbridge’s troll is named Pia The Peacekeeper and she enjoys quiet. She is located within Sakai Park which is just one mile from the ferry terminal.

According to an Instagram post, West Seattle’s troll is named Bruunidun. She plays a flute and watches over the visitors of Lincoln Park.

Dambo’s project is all about “amplifying the connections of cultural heritage between Coast Salish tribal communities and Danish and Scandinavian traditions.”

What’s more, Dambo uses recycled materials so these sculptures are saving objects that may otherwise go to waste. A look at his other troll sculptures shows beings made predominantly from wood. What a seemingly perfect match for a region so rich in timber.

As for when you’ll be able to see the rest of the Washington trolls, they are “coming soon.” Of course, we will keep you updated with any and all information we have on the regions new mythical friends.
