Reminder- VMF’s Winter Arts returns to Vancouver this week

Just in time for Valentine’s Day in Vancouver, the outdoor art festival Winter Arts is coming back to the city. Now in its second year, VMF Winter Arts has become a must-see experience combining AR, light installations, and even some live events! So, before it kicks off, we’ve got a quick rundown on what you can expect.

Starting on Friday, February 11th, Winters Arts will see 11 new and exciting art installations pop up all around downtown Vancouver. The locations range from BC Place to Yaletown, to the Vancouver Convention Centre. However, the main attraction is going to be the ‘Winter Arts Hub’, so let’s talk about that a little bit.

Located at šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square, this open-air venue will have installations, live entertainment, food trucks, and even a licensed area to enjoy some beverages (either hot or cold)! You’ll be able to check out the installations every day throughout Winter Arts, but know that the Bar and Stage portions will only be running Wednesday to Sunday.

If you’re trying to make heads or tails of what you see, you should also know that the theme for this year’s AR installations is ‘Being Metaself’. And, in a nutshell, that means most of the artists will have created something related to the presentation of self in a digital world. So, that could manifest as anything from a heavily modified, but still human, form to something completely abstract. After all, AR (and by extension, VR) offers a new way of seeing not only the world but yourself within it. Funky!

And, since all of this is free to see, we highly recommend that you check it out while it’s on!
