Bike the Blossoms
We thought we’d start strong, and list the most quintessential spring date option in the city. After all, cherry blossoms are beautiful, free, and a great opportunity for some fresh air. And this weekend, you can hop on a couple of bikes and join the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s “Bike the Blossoms” event, which starts at the south end of Trout Lake at 11 am on Saturday, April 22nd.

Of course, another option is to get a little bit of spring skiing done! While the Whistler side is set to close in mid-April, Blackcomb Mountain is slated to stay open until late May. If you didn’t get the chance to hit the slopes this winter, then this is a great time to go.

As We Rise: Photography from the Black Atlantic
If you haven’t yet checked it out, the Polygon Gallery is hosting a curated exhibit by Elliott Ramsey celebrating the Black community and identities in Canada. The As We Rise exhibit features more than 100 photographs from the Wedge Collection – the largest privately owned collection championing Black artists in the country.
From African diasporic culture to the civil rights movement, the new exhibit (organized by Aperture) features powerful photography by a number of talented artists.

Speaking of live arts, we’ve got some theatre for a nice (and cultured) night out! First up is Arts Club, which has got a variety of shows coming for the spring program, with one thread holding them together- they’re all musicals!

Of course, what’s more classic than dinner and a movie for a date? We always like to see what’s playing at the Rio, the Cinematheque, or the VIFF Centre. From recent releases to cult classics and even some live options here and there, all three of them are interchangeable for a great experience.

Enjoy the Capilano Suspension Bridge
Ok, time for some of the iconic choices around the city. North Vancouver’s amazing tourist attraction has reopened for the spring. Dress properly, and you can experience the beauty of the bridge in the rain, which is an underrated sight for Vancouverites.

Visit a Japanese garden
The Nitobe Memorial Japanese Garden has reopened for the spring! Located at UBC, this incredible garden prompted the former Japanese Emperor to say “I am in Japan” during a visit. If that’s not a mark of authenticity, then we don’t know what is. Plus, admission is just $5 per person.

Visit VanDusen Botanical Garden & the Plant Sale
There are few better gardens not only in Vancouver, but in all of Canada, than VanDusen. Packed full with seasonal blooms that need to be seen to be believed, it’s a showstopping stroll each and every time. Plus, they’ll be having their plant sale with over 500 varieties in May.
