The Vancouver Blood Donor Centre needs your help, so give thanks & give back this weekend!
Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and food, but it’s also a time for giving. Giving thanks, yes, but giving can go a lot further than that. One important thing you can do this weekend (or any time after that) is to give blood! After all, it’s something that is always needed, it’s a great way to give back without spending much time and money, and you’ll feel fantastic about doing it!
Plus, long weekends are typically a time when blood demand goes way up. As people move around, visiting friends and family or heading on weekend getaways, there are oftentimes more hospital visits requiring blood than usual.
Vancouver’s Canadian Blood Services is located right at 7450 Oak Street, right beside the BC Children’s Hospital. Obviously, they are taking health and safety precautions seriously, so here is what you can expect!
All chairs and donation beds will be 6 feet apart, everyone will be asked to wear a mask (you’ll be given one if you don’t have one), and temperature will be taken upon arrival! Plus, they’ll be going by appointment only, so you can make those at blood.ca or by calling 1-888- 2-DONATE.
There are currently 100 open blood donation appointments available between this Friday and Monday. Before booking that appointment, you can go online and check if you meet the eligibility criteria to donate.
After that’s done, book yourself an appointment! Remember to drink plenty of water and enjoy a good meal before the appointment so you’re feeling in tip-top shape.
It’s the weekend of giving thanks, so go above and beyond this time around to help those in need. Have a great Thanksgiving, Vancouver!
