When the news broke on Monday that TV series Kim’s Convenience would not be returning after their fifth season, Torontonians on Twitter had a lot to say about it. The hit series has become a Canadian staple over the past few years. Plus, it’s shot right here in the city and features loads of local actors. According to the announcement, its cancellation is because the two co-creators of the show decided to move on to other projects.

Because this city doesn’t take anything quietly, people flocked to Twitter in hopes of rallying a fan campaign to change producers’ minds. The hashtag #SaveKimsConvenience quickly wracked up hundreds of Tweets, with folks expressing their dissatisfaction at the announcement.

They’ve even gone so far as to guilt producers with comparisons to Canadian mega-hit Schitt’s Creek. Oof.

So will this be enough to save the Kim’s Convenience? Only time will tell. We all remember when a similar Twitter campaign revived the hit series Brooklyn Nine-Nine after it was cancelled a few years ago, so it’s not entirely outside of the realm of possibility. But of course every show is different, so we’ll have to wait and see if efforts from these fans really have an impact.

Along with the hashtag, fans have also started an online petition in support of their cause. At the time we’re writing this, it’s sitting at about 2,700 signatures. If you’d like to check it out and/or sign it, you can do so right here.
