Vancouver’s most luxurious street is about to look the part, thanks to a decision by City Council. Two blocks of Alberni Street, between Burrard and Bute,  are set to be redesigned sooner rather than later. To get the ball rolling, the City has issued a request for proposals.

They want more community space, sidewalk improvements, better crosswalks, so on and so forth. Obviously, they recognize that Alberni Street in its current form is pretty lacklustre, even though it has some of the best flagship stores in the country.

While we can’t afford anything on the street (maybe something from Tim’s), we’re looking forward to seeing its metamorphosis. It will be nice to attend a festival or event, and the people watching will undoubtedly get even better.

The current schedule has concepts being submitted until late August. The final design should be ready to go this fall.
