Air Canada gets nod as Top Airline of the Year by Global Traveler
We’re seriously surprised that Global Traveler has named Air Canada as its airline of the year for 2019. Not because Air Canada hasn’t gotten better recently (it has), but because the competition for being the best airline is both a global and fierce one. Let’s check out what’s going on, hey?
Global Traveler, if you didn’t know, is a US-based magazine focusing on luxury business and leisure air travel. They looked at a variety of factors to determine this year’s rankings. Things like onboard menus, product offerings, safety records, and even financial data were reviewed to determine the winner.

According to a press release by Air Canada, the airline has spent a whopping $12 billion dollars over the past decade to get its clout up. These days, business class travel can include a dish courtesy of Vikram Vij, a lie-flat bed in a Boeing 787, and even a BMW chauffeur service. Plus, Air Canada is one of the few airlines to serve all six inhabited continents.
It’s a far cry from the days of ‘avoid Air Canada at all costs’. We guess that old dogs might actually be the best at learning new tricks? It’s a new idea, but one we’re happy to embrace.
