Howdy folks! With the holiday season continuing to creep up, we thought it would be a good time to list all the amazing light displays around Vancouver this year. But before we dive in- due to recent public health updates, make sure that you’re not travelling outside your locality to visit them. At least for the next couple of weeks.
Now that we’ve got the safety covered, here are 10 light displays around Vancouver this season.
Festival of Lights
This incredible event returns to VanDusen at the end of the month! There will be over one million lights on display throughout the garden’s 10 acres. Basically, it’s a winter wonderland in one of Vancouver’s most beautiful settings. Definitely one of our top picks this year.
When: Starts November 27th

Canyon Lights
Canyon Lights are probably Greater Vancouver’s most famous light display. We have to admit, it’s a pretty stunning experience if a bit pricey. We’re putting this one in the ‘Vancouver bucket list’ category for the holidays. So, if you haven’t been, maybe this year it the time!
When: Starts December 1st
Where: 3735 Capilano Road, North Vancouver
Cost: $54.95 for GA
Granville Island
Granville Island’s annual light display is also coming back. While we don’t recommend it as a standalone experience, we will say it is a great addition to the fun you’ll already have strolling around the island. Plus, pretty much every vendor offers some kind of holiday treat, so finding the perfect gift should be a breeze.

Bright Nights Christmas Train
Revamped with COVID-19 procedures in mind, this family-friendly activity returns to Stanley Park at the end of the month. We’ll also say this is one of the most reasonably-priced options on this list, considering you get to ride a train and enjoy over 2 million lights.
When: Starts November 26th

PNE WinterLights
PNE was amongst the first attraction to offer drive-thru experiences, and they’ve done a great job so far. We’re expecting to same quality from their upcoming holiday light drive-thru, which will feature a variety of scenes to enjoy as you make your way to Santa’s workshop.

Lights of Hope
No list would be complete without this iconic installation at St. Paul’s Hospital. Now in its 23rd year, the experience moved online to kick things off, but the lights are still up and available to check out! If you do visit, then consider making a donation to the hospital as well.
When: Starts November 19

Cost: Free
Peak of Christmas
This mountaintop light display returns to Grouse Mountain, and is a great double-whammy option. Why? Because admission also grants access to skating at Blue Grouse Lake. Definitely one of the more wintry options on this list, and we’re down for it.
When: Starts November 20
Where: 6400 Nancy Greene Way, North Vancouver

Festival of Trees
If you’re looking for a left-field pick, then consider this installation coming to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. Hand decorated Christmas trees will be on display throughout the museum, showcasing the best decorators in the Lower Mainland. A Christmas tree display inside a Cannery? Sure, why not!

Vallea Lumina
This forested light experience returns for a second year at the end of the month. A year-round production, Vallea Lumina has you follow along with the story of some lost hikers, as they experience a magical trek through the trees.
When: Opens for the winter on November 27

Glow Maple Ridge
Basically, this massive light display takes over the entire community for the holiday season. So, you can easily make it a drive-thru experience of your own. Of course, don’t head over before the travel restrictions have been lifted, if you do want to check out these free light installations.
