So you’ve just spent the day shopping on Robson and you’re feeling a little peckish. Uh oh though! Everybody else feels the same way, and most restaurants are packed. Why bother waiting in line when you can get something to go and eat at home in roughly the same amount of time?
That’s what this post is all about, the best take out spots in the West End.
A must for Chinese food, and one of the best in the city. Although they’re famous for their xiao long bao and potstickers, you can’t go wrong here. Get a couple varieties of dumplings, some rice/noodles, and a protein dish and you’ll be ready to feast.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 5PM-10PM, and Saturday/Sunday 11AM-10PM
Where: 1719 Robson Street
A great choice if you’re getting bored with the KFC experience. Light and crispy, this spot is dangerous for those who have yet to try the other kind of KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). Soy is our personal favourite, but you can’t go wrong with the Hot fried chicken either.
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 3PM-1AM and Friday/Saturday, 3PM-2AM
Where: 1635 Robson Street
Sometimes you just want a baked potato. We get it, we have the same craving once a month as well. A solid, healthier alternative to getting poutine, these loaded potatoes are sure to fill you up. Try the Butter Chicken potato, it’s the most popular on their menu and it won’t disappoint.
Hours: Monday to Saturday, 11AM-8PM and Sunday, 12PM-8PM
Where: 288 Robson Street
One of the best spots for Vietnamese takeout in the city. The menu includes all the staples- banh mi, pho, rice, and vermicelli. While we know the pho here is good, we need to admit that we’re all about the buns.
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 11AM-10PM and Friday/Saturday, 11AM-11PM
Where: 1150 Davie Street
Great place to pick up a few dishes before heading home. We’re big fans of the fish cakes, the spring rolls, the Tom Yum Soup, and of course, some yellow curry. Hearty enough for filling up on a colder day. Light enough for summer. Win-win.
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 11:30Am-9: 30 PM, Friday/Saturday, 11:30AM-10PM and Sunday, 12PM-9PM
Where: 1215 Thurlow Street
A pretty cheap sushi place that has partnered with Ocean Wise, Itoga is the best spot for takeout sushi in the West End. Get a couple of combos if it’s just you and a friend. Buying for a group? You can’t go wrong with a party tray.
Hours: Monday to Saturday, 11:30AM-2PM and 5PM-8PM
Where: 1668 Robson Street
If you’re craving sushi alongside something a little heartier, then Kingyo is your place. Get some pressed sushi (their specialty), a bowl of bibimbap and some tan-tan noodles. Heck, if you can, ask if you can get some ginger ale to-go as well, it’s that good.
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 11:30AM-2:30AM/5:30PM-11:30PM and Friday/Saturday, 11:30AM-2:30PM/5:30PM-12AM
Where: 871 Denman Street
Good spot for homemade Greek dishes. Get some tzatziki and pita to start. Afterward, how about some souvlaki plates, maybe chicken and lamb? If you’re feeling like you need something heartier, the mousaka or the lasagna will definitely hit the spot.
Hours: Daily, 11:30AM-11: 30 PM
Where: 1124 Davie Street
A west end staple, Nook is great for more upscale pasta dishes and pizza. If you’ve got a little extra to spend, this spot is definitely worth it. We definitely recommend the gnocchi and the proscuitto pizza, but it’s really up to you.
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 5PM-10PM and Friday/Saturday, 5PM-11PM
Where: 781 Denman Street
Those are our top picks for the West End! Now you can feel confident next time your friends ask what to get before going home.
