Food lovers, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news that the beloved Italian restaurant Campagnolo will not be reopening their doors. This also means that the bar, aptly named Campagnolo Upstairs, has closed as well. A double-kick in the shins!

The news was shared via the Campagnolo Facebook page on Wednesday evening. The regional-focused Italian restaurant had earned a whole host of accolades during its almost 12-year run. And, that includes a nod as one of the best new restaurants in the world back in 2009.

Campagnolo Upstairs was no different and was regarded as one of the best bars in the city. It’s a tough loss, which is saying something since Vancouver is packed to the brim great Italian restaurants and bars. On the bright side, you can still experience head chef and co-owner Robert Belcham’s food at Popina Canteen on Granville Island.

But we usually dive into pasta and wine when we’re feeling sad! Maybe we’ll buy some frozen lasagna to try and get over it. We don’t think it will be quite the same, though.
