A mainstay donut spot in Kits has permanently closed

Donut lovers, we’re sad to report that the mainstay Kits spot Cartems Donuts closed permanently over the weekend. Cartems made the announcement via Instagram on Sunday. Here’s a quick rundown.

The Broadway spot officially opened in the summer of 2016, as the third location of the beloved Vancouver brand. A go-to spot for UBC students and Kitsilano residents alike, it served as both neighbourhood hangout and study spot.

In the caption, Cartems thanked the community for the ongoing support over the years. Although no reason for the closure was named, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think this might have to do with COVID-19. That’s just speculation on our end.

The bright side, of course, is that both the Downtown and the Mount Pleasant locations are staying open. So, getting a Cartems fix is simply a hop, skip and a jump away. Heck, you can even order delivery on the local Vancouver service Fromto.

Maybe we’ll eat our feelings about the closure with a few donuts today. Yeah, that sounds like the right idea.
