Vancouver’s OG nerd bar is perfect for fall weather
We hate to admit it, but it looks like fall is finally rearing its ugly head. The silver lining, though, is that we can still have a ton of fun at Storm Crow, Vancouver’s original ‘nerd bar’. If you haven’t checked out this iconic spot, here’s what you can expect.
The Storm Crow Tavern first arrived on the scene in 2012. The passion project of one of the people behind Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled, it was intended to be a ‘sports bar for geeks’.
That meant that playing card and board games weren’t just tolerated, it was openly encouraged. Forget playing Settlers of Catan in your friend’s basement suite (still good), you could now enjoy a full game in a bar setting.
Which meant you had access to delicious pub fare (with gluten-free and vegan options), plus any kind of drink you want. While the local draft beers are always a good idea, we have to hand it to Storm Crow for their inventive and creative cocktails.
Well, the idea has since taken off. The Storm Crow Alehouse on Broadway opened in 2015 and offered double the space of the Tavern. Then, the mad lads went to Toronto just last year and have been enjoying a warm welcome since.
So, the next time you feel like you’re ready to lose friends over a game of Monopoly, head to a neutral setting beforehand. Look for us running the Guess Who? tournament. Yeah, that’s right, you can optimize Guess Who? strategies.
