One of North Van’s newest breweries is serving up beer, coffee, and funk
If you haven’t already noticed, North Van has become somewhat of a sleeper hit for the brewery community in Canada. And yet, House of Funk Brewing was born to stand out in it. Having opened during the summer last year, House of Funk quickly became a go-to spot for those who know what they want. Here’s why!
The name House of Funk is both playful and informative, actually. Sure, they’re a funky bunch, but they also specialize in ‘experimental beers’. That means that every beer here must “spend time fermenting or conditioning in wood, or be subjected to an onslaught of wild yeast, souring bacteria and other funky micro-organisms.”
Now that might sound unappetizing, but trust us here. Or don’t! You can instead trust the BC Beer Awards, which handed out two podium finishes to House of Funk this year. As confident as we are in our palate, we have to defer to the pros in this case.
Correct us if we’re wrong, but we also don’t know of any brewery in Canada that doubles as a roastery. Sure, there’s the uber-popular Modern Times in LA, but that’s it. So, knowing that House of Funk has its own roasting program to boot really sets them apart from the rest of the pack.
But that’s just our opinion. Why don’t you head down this weekend and see for yourself what all the fuss is about?
