Whitecaps games postponed following COVID concerns

We’ve got some good news/bad news for you soccer fans out there. The good news is that the Vancouver Whitecaps are putting player safety first following COVID-19 outbreaks. The bad news is that this means they will not be starting that MLS Is Back Tournament on time. Here’s what you should know.

For background, the MLS is hosting a welcome back tournament that’s starting July 8th. The Whitecaps were supposed to face off against Dallas FC. However, both teams faced issues regarding players contracting COVID-19.

The Whitecaps had two inconclusive COVID-19 tests before they even got on the plane. Meanwhile, Dallas FC had 6 players test positive last week, leading to quarantine procedures for all players and staff. Definitely the more troubling outbreak of the two teams.

The Whitecaps are now going to face off against the San Jose Earthquakes starting on July 15th instead. We’ll keep you posted if there are any new developments. Also, you can read the press release in full right here.
