NHL eyeing a 24 team playoff bracket for when play resumes
According to Sportsnet, the NHL is ready to commit to a 24 team playoff bracket once the league is given clearance to play again. Now, they need to wait until the Players’ Association approves the idea, then they need to figure out where to play. But hey, this is definitely a step in the right direction!
For the past couple of months, few organizations have been as touch and go as the NHL. Stay at home orders have been extended, conversations with politicians have been had, and claims have been made that not finishing the season is ‘off the table’.

However, there are still a few hurdles to get over before we can expect anything to happen. First is dealing with international travel, especially since the border between Canada and the US has been shut down. Then, the NHL needs to figure out where exactly to host teams. We’re happy to say that Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver all seem to be frontrunners.
Finally, they need to deal with fans. Will arenas be reopened with massive reduced crowds? Will a live stream format be the only option? There are tons of things up in the air right now.
One thing isn’t though, and that’s the commitment of the league to finish the season safely. We’re rooting for you! We need to see a Stanley Cup champion!
