Film fanatics and documentary buffs, your time is coming. Toronto’s most popular documentary film festival, Hot Docs, just announced part of its 2021 lineup and it looks like we’re in for some stellar picks. The festival marks another year of amazing filmmaking, despite the less-than-amazing circumstances.
So what’s on the block? So far, we’ve got 15 titles confirmed in the Hot Docs Special Programming. They range in topics from musical biographies, to explorations of race, to deep dives on elite-level card games. There’s even an incredibly relevant flick from award-winning director Yung Chang that explores Wuhan, China at the peak of the pandemic lockdown.

Of course, that’s not all the films that’ll be screened during this iconic event. The rest of the lineup will be announced during a live broadcast on Tuesday, March 23rd. Be sure to head online to tune in for that.
Unlike previous years, Hot Docs Festival will be taking place primarily through their virtual streaming platform. Depending on the city’s restrictions in the spring, they plan on hosting a hybrid version of the festival with some screenings online and some in socially-distance theatres.
