Stay toasty at this free winter pop-up in Calgary’s University District

Bring your own skates to this winter pop-up that’s taking over the University District on Jan. 25. It’ll be wholesome family fun for all at this free event that boasts ice-carving, sledge hockey, s’mores and live music.

Construction on the University District began in 2017, and since its completion, it’s already revitalized the area. This award-winning mixed-use urban development is located in the heart of northwest Calgary, just steps from the University of Calgary campus.

Retailer AdaptAbility will host an exciting sledge hockey demonstration where you can watch these incredible athletes in action and learn more about the sport. Plus, there’s plenty of s’mores and skating to go around, so make sure you sharpen your blades before hitting the ice!

What to expect

Attendees are encouraged to hit the ice at the University District on Jan. 25 — but if you don’t have your own skates to lace up, don’t worry. Rentals are available, and this flooded outdoor ice surface is one of the best in the city to find your stride.

Ice will fly at a live carving demonstration by local artist Julian Lee. You can also warm up with complimentary s’mores for toasting, or hit the dance floor to the smooth grooves of DJ GOODBAR.

The event is completely free to attend and geared towards families, so it’s an awesome way to show your little ones how we like to spend winters here in Canada.

Adaptive sport demonstration

Sledge hockey is one of Canada’s fastest-growing adaptive sports, and at the University District Winter Pop-Up, you’ll see why. AdaptAbility will host a sledge hockey demonstration where you can see for yourself how these awesome athletes glide on ice.

Grab a hot cocoa and see how winter sports come alive in Calgary — this winter pop-up is the perfect way to celebrate the season.
