Many commuters in Metro Vancouver woke up to the news that their buses would not be running today (Monday, January 22nd) on account of the strike by the Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC), which is responsible for over 96% of the region’s bus services, including passenger ferry service across Burrard Inlet.
This means that until the strike has ended, there will be no CMBC bus or SeaBus service, according to TransLink.
“Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC), is currently in negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement with CUPE Local 4500, the union that represents approximately 180 transit supervisors,” reads the job action page. “Customers should arrange alternate travel plans if they typically rely on bus and SeaBus to get around.”

Note that UBC and Simon Fraser’s campuses remain open, though some classes have been moved online. Students are encouraged to check in with their instructors about the status of their courses early this week if they have not yet received communication from them.
TransLink shares that service is expected to resume on Wednesday, January 24th, so stay tuned for more info as it comes. Until then, carpooling is your best friend!
