The Aga Khan Museum has an exciting featured piece on display at the moment. This Toronto spot just announced they’ve acquired Kumbi Saleh 3020 CE; an incredible sculpture made with 100,000 LEGO pieces. Seriously this thing is a sight to see.
So the piece was created by contemporary Ghanaian-Canadian artist Ekow Nimako. Through his work, he aims to channel Africa’s remarkable history and powerful future. This piece is just one in the powerful exhibit Building Black: Civilizations, which featured works from the artist at Aga Khan from September 2019 – February 2020.

This sculpture itself is the monumental 30-square-foot centrepiece of the exhibit as a whole. It depicts an “Afrofuturist reimagining of an ancient West Saharan trade hub.” The incredible work is full of intricate detail symbolizing strength and hope that you’ve got to see in person.
Thankfully, the museum has announced that Aga Khan will be the work’s forever home, so you can stop by and check it out once it’s safe to do so.
