Another week ahead of us, another schedule filled with tons of things to do. Forget the weekend (for now) and think about how great you can make your Monday through Thursday! With that in mind, here are some of the best things to do in Toronto this week.

Close Encounters: The Cinema of Steven Spielberg

If you consider yourself a bit of a movie-buff then make sure you catch the last few days of this cinematic celebration of Steven Spielberg (excuse the alliteration). He’s covered every genre in every way, so you know there’s something for everyone who’s looking to take in a flick this week.

When: Until Wednesday, January 9
Where: TIFF Bell Lightbox, 350 King Street W
Time: Times Vary
Cost: $10 – $14

Grand Opening of the Staples Canada Store Experience

Opening Thursday, January 10th at 8:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting with Staples Canada executives and special guests, this exciting new working and learning space is sure to be something you’ve never experienced before. Oh, and the first 100 people to arrive will all be getting gift cards to the store! Mos Mos Café will also be treating Torontonians to FREE coffee from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. while you explore the new space.

When: Thursday, January 10
Where: 375 University Ave
Time: Doors open at 8 AM

Maple Leafs vs Predators

Two of the leagues best will square off when the Preds from Music City, USA come to town this week. Let’s see if the boys in blue can stay hot and light these country music-loving hooligans up to start off the week.

When: Monday, January 7
Where: Scotiabank Arena
Time: 7 PM
Cost: $132+

Raptors vs Atlanta Hawks

The Raptors are good and the Hawks are bad, so if you’re looking for a solid shellacking (we had to google that spelling) to kick off 2019 then this could be your best bet. Also, we are knocking on wood while typing this so don’t you dare @ us if the Raps eat a loss.

When: Tuesday, January 8
Where: Scotiabank Arena
Time: 7:30 PM
Cost: $54+

Jeff Dunham: Passively Aggressive

To be honest, ventriloquists freak us out. We had a few too many accidentally unsupervised viewings of Chucky films as kids, so we’re not here to watch dolls come alive for laughs. BUT, if this sort of thing is up your alley then there is no one better than Jeff Dunham.

When: Wednesday, January 9
Where: Scotiabank Arena
Time: 7 PM
Cost: $85

Friends & Parks and Rec Trivia Nights at Hemingway’s

Do you consider yourself a bit of a sitcom nut? Do you rattle off facts about Rachel Green’s high school days and Ron Swanson’s bacon and eggs obsession ad nauseam? If so, then there are a couple of trivia nights you have to hit up this week. Bring your friends, have some drinks, and put all of those Netflix and re-run hours on the couch to good use (finally).

When: Monday, January 7 (Friends) & Tuesday, January 8 (Parks and Rec)
Where: Hemingway’s Restaurant, 142 Cumberland St
Time: 6 PM
Cost: $8.50

David Bowie Birthday Celebration

Get wild, get weird, and get into a birthday groove that David Bowie himself would have been proud of. Honour the fallen legend with a night of raucous fun at this high-key party in a low-key spot. Enjoy!

When: Tuesday, January 8
Where: Cherry Cola’s Rock ’n’ Rolla Cabaret & Lounge, 2oo Bathurst Street
Time: 8 PM
Cost: $10

A Kevin McDonald with An Evening! (Kids in the Hall)

Nostalgia typically goes hand in hand with getting into your feels, but this week it will go hand in hand with hilarity. Join Kids in the Hall star Kevin McDonald for a night of belly laughs, knee slaps, and 80s/90s reminiscing.

When: Tuesday, January 8
Where: The Rivoli, 334 Queen Street W
Time: 7 PM & 10 PM
Cost: $20 – $25

Have a great week out there, Toronto!
