The City of Toronto is closing all playgrounds, dog parks, and sports courts

If your pup is anything like ours, it’s super stoked that you’re home all the time now thanks to self-isolation. But they still need to get outside sometimes and run around. Unfortunately, that won’t be happening any time soon at any of Toronto’s parks. Effectively immediately, the City of Toronto is closing all playgrounds, off-leash dog parks, outdoor fitness areas and sports courts, sports fields, skateboard parks, and picnic shelters. Oof, that’s a lot of outdoor closures.

The news came Wednesday in an announcement by Mayor John Tory. And the hope is, of course, that it will slow the spread of coronavirus (aka COVID-19).

Now, if you’re worried that your dog is going to be way too cooped up without access to these parks, you are still welcome to take them out on a walk. Just be sure to be staying a safe 1.5-2 metres from those around you. And wash your hands as soon as you get home.

This news isn’t exactly fun, but sometimes we’ve just gotta do what we’ve gotta do. Especially in trying times like these. If you’re looking for a new way to get a little exercise, try out one of these at home virtual workouts. Or just cry into your pint of ice cream. Apparently, that burns calories too. The crying, not the ice cream.
