When we were 12 years old, we were playing hopscotch and Truth or Dare on the schoolyard. Or maybe we were learning how to roller skate or eating lipgloss in our spare time. Those days are all a blur, we’re not really sure. But what we’re sure we weren’t doing was driving a car. Back then, we could only dream of the day we’d turn 16, get our licence, and hit the open road.

Well, it looks like one Toronto 12-year-old couldn’t wait that long. Because at around 1:30 AM on Tuesday, police pulled a child over as he was driving along the QEW. They were called to the scene after multiple people reported a reckless driver on the highway. Thankfully, no one was hurt and no property was damaged. But boy, that’s a wild evening for a 12-year-old!

When interviewed by CP24, the boy’s father said he’s not sure why his son decided to go on the little escapade. “He doesn’t break the rules and do stuff like this. And then all of a sudden, you know, basically taking a car without permission… That’s like a pretty big thing.”

The father went on to explain that the boy has been isolated during the pandemic, so it’s possible that’s the reason behind the sudden strange behaviour. We can’t say we don’t feel for the kid. We’ve wanted to escape this quarantine many a time.

Thankfully, all’s well that ends well, and the 12-year-old has safely returned home to his parents. As we mentioned before, no one was hurt and nothing was damaged. So maybe one day this will all be a funny story the family tells over dinner. One day.
