It’s time for 90s kids to rejoice, because Dunkaroos are officially making a comeback. Well, to the United States, at least. One would expect for Dunkaroos to also come back to Canada, but we’ve got a trick up our sleeves if they don’t.

General Mills made the announcement Monday that Dunkaroos would finally be returning to American stores after an eight-year hiatus. Up here in Canada, we were blessed with Dunkaroos until their discontinuation in 2018.

Interestingly, Jeff Caswell, the President of Snacks at General Mills (a job title we are beyond envious of) said: “We’re thrilled to relaunch Dunkaroos in the U.S. after years of it only being available in Canada.” Sure, we had it on shelves longer than the U.S. did, but are we getting it back?? C’mon, Jeff, we can’t plan our 2020 calendar of sugar intake around vague announcements like this.

So far, there has been no official word on whether or not Dunkaroos are coming to Canada, but Americans can expect them nationwide in the summer.

As for that trick up our sleeve we mentioned, back in 2016 Dunkaroos ran a sneaky advertising campaign under the name of “Smugglaroos”. They encouraged Canadians traveling to the States to bring Dunkaroos with them and deliver them to Americans. Well, folks, we think it’s time for our southernly neighbours to return the favour.

If summer rolls around and Dunkaroos aren’t popping up in Canadian stores, Smugglaroos 2020 commences. In the meantime, we should all eat a little cleaner so we can dream about our Dunkaroos guilt-free. Cheers!
