Cineplex is set to reopen 7 theatres around the GTA on Friday
Cinephiles and popcorn lovers, we’ve got good news for you! As you know, over the past few months theatres have been closed cause of the ongoing coronavirus (aka COVID-19) situation. And although most theatres across the province were given the go-ahead two weeks ago to reopen, Cineplex opted out of joining them. Well, it looks like the tide has turned. Yep, Cineplex has just announced that they’re jumping on the bandwagon of (partially) reopening in Ontario!
The announcement came in a Tweet from the company this morning. And rumour has it that the change of heart is because of a phone call between Ontario Heritage Minister Lisa MacLeod and Cineplex CEO Ellis Jacob. The two likely discussed how the company would move forward under Stage 3 in the province. And whatever was said, we’re on board. ‘Cause it means that Cineplex theatres are back in business, baby!
There are a total of 25 theatres opening up on July 31st, and seven of ’em are actually in the GTA! These locations are Eglinton Town Centre, Empress Walk, Yonge-Dundas, Yorkdale, Yonge-Eglinton, Mississauga, and the Queensway. Not bad at all.
Welcome back, movie lovers! Select locations will be open in Ontario (and all across Canada) this weekend! 😃🍿

Now, there will be a ton of new regulations in place. That’s pretty much a given these days. Guests will be required to wear masks inside the theatres. And folks will have to reserve their seats ahead of time. The new seating plans will be adjusted so that physical distancing is possible. And, of course, cleaning practices will be upped as well.
So there you have it! We’ve been loving all the drive-in movie events, but sometimes it’s nice to get back to what we’re used to. And thanks to Cineplex, the movie experience will be doing just that. Pass the popcorn!
