Everything to see at this month’s huge TEDxToronto event
TEDxToronto 2019 | Rise
Calling all Torontonians, TEDxToronto is going to be in town on Saturday, October 26th. This year’s theme is Rise, and TEDxToronto 2019 will beg the question of, “what does it take for all of us, as a society, to rise together?” Exploring the inherent tension between Rise being both optimistic and ominous.
TEDxToronto Speakers & Performers
This year’s TEDxToronto host is none other than Toronto-born rap artist, Kardinal Offishall. If the fact that Kardinal is hosting TEDxToronto doesn’t make your body bounce – we’re pretty sure the list of speakers will. From Mark Cohon, Chairman of Toronto Global and Former Commissioner of the CFL, to Cassandra Diamond, Founder, and Director of BridgeNorth, and Anthony Morgan, Human Rights, and Civil Liberties Lawyer, TEDxToronto has got it goin’ on!
In addition to the captivating ideas that will be sure to be worth spreading, the daylong event will also showcase entertainment by a unique range of performers that encompass the culture and excitement of the Toronto landscape. Performers include:
1. Liza, an R&B singer-songwriter from Toronto
2. DATU, comprised of Alexander Junior, Romeo Candido, Gee Soropia and a revolving
roster of dancers
3. She’s All That, comedy duo Sima Sepehri and Neha Kohli
4. futura collective, comprised of Toronto’s finest classical musicians
Find all of the exciting details on the TEDxToronto website and of course, grab your tickets while they last (duh, that’s a no-brainer).
2019 Theme: Rise
TEDxToronto is posing the question, “What does it mean to rise today?” What does it mean to rise to you, Toronto? So many things are on the rise: new technologies and businesses, political movements, online communities, the temperature – heck even that Visa bill that you’re ignoring… In all seriousness, TEDxToronto is igniting conversations and challenging the status quo. Not only that but bringing attention to voices not yet heard.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment, and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world – TEDxToronto being the biggest TEDx event in Canada.
