A big storm is hitting Toronto this week & it could be a doozy

Get those heavy-duty winter boots out of the closet, friends — you’re going to need them pretty soon. The Toronto weather forecast shows that a big storm is coming our way.

According to The Weather Network, a “potent” storm will hit Ontario on Thursday, bringing a nasty combination of heavy snow, ice pellets, rain, and freezing rain to the province.

Right now, the forecast says that Toronto will get around 10 cm of snow and 5 mm of rain on Thursday, but that prediction could change as the storm approaches.

“People can expect disruptions to travel and possibly power, as well,” said TWN.

It’s not just Toronto weather that’ll get affected, either. This “robust, far-encompassing storm” is affecting a “good chunk of North America,” according to the weather outlet.

If winds remain gusty during this storm, power outages are likely to take place too.

It seems that The Weather Network was right in their prediction that Canada would get a frigid start to winter this year.

“Canadians should be prepared for a strong start to winter through December,” said Chief Meteorologist Chris Scott in the winter forecast.

Scott adds that a “colder than normal start to winter” is on tap, thanks to “a rare triple-dip La Niña weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean” and a polar vortex at the same time.

However, there’s some good news for those who want some relief from the cold.

“Winter will take a break at times with periods of mild weather during January and February, especially from southern Ontario to Newfoundland,” said Scott.

An “extended thaw” could take place in southern Ontario later this winter, but the season will also bring “a messy mix of snow, ice, and even rain at times,” and precipitation levels will likely be above-normal.

It seems like we’ll get a taste of that messy forecast as early as this Thursday. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
