No money, no problem: This Toronto university opened a FREE store for students

Imagine a store where price tags don’t exist and wallets aren’t necessary. Believe it or not, that’s exactly what you’ll find at the Toronto Metropolitan University free store!

The initiative was started last year and is now running for the second time as students head back to campus.

The store is filled with gently used donated items and students at TMU can pick out anything they like for no cost.

It’s dedicated to helping TMU students reduce their environmental impact and save money while they’re at it.

By shopping second-hand, we are “disrupting throwaway culture and contributing to the circular economy,” the school says.

The store is stocked with all kinds of items including office supplies, electronics, home decor, kitchen supplies, books, and even board games.

The first pop-up last year was a huge success.

According to TMU, over 3,440 students visited and 2,540 items were re-homed, diverting 1,266 lbs from landfill.

Now through September 5th, a donation drive is taking place on campus at VIC-403 in the Victoria Building.

Friends and community members are invited to donate their gently-used items for students to take home.

A pop-up free store will be open throughout Orientation Week until September 7th in the same room, and it’s open from 11 AM to 3 PM daily.

A two-item limit will be implemented on the first day of the store’s opening — Tuesday, August 29th.

But, don’t worry because the store will be replenished with new items throughout the week, thanks to community donations.

So, if you’re furnishing your dorm or re-stocking school supplies with a limited budget, the Toronto Metropolitan University free store might just save the day!
