Toronto Maple Leafs players may be riding the TTC in full gear this week & here’s why

If you’re commuting around the city on Thursday morning, keep an eye out for a bunch of guys in hockey equipment.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be holding their annual Outdoor Practice at Nathan Phillips Square on Thursday, February 8th and if they take their usual mode of transportation again this year, you’ll be seeing them on the TTC.

The Maple Leafs Outdoor Practice happens annually at Nathan Phillip Square, where fans get to watch Leafs players practice up close and outdoors.

For the last few years, including in 2023, the players have been spotted commuting to the event like true Torontonians – on the subway.

Videos of players in full gear went viral in years past, with some of the team’s stars chatting with fans and subway riders, too.

If you’re planning on attending the event, hop on a ride with the players on your way and enjoy three days’ worth of fun at Nathan Phillip Square.

The practice begins at 12:00 PM on Thursday. Other activities from Thursday, February 8th – Saturday, February 9th range from a PWHL Toronto Skills Competition, a Leafs Alumni signing session, a Blue & White Alumni Game and family-friendly activities at Activation Alley.

There will even be a Viewing Party for the Leafs vs. Senators game on Saturday evening. A full list of festivities can be found here.

Don’t forget, these events will be outdoors, so dress accordingly.

If you can’t make it onto the TTC on Thursday, it won’t be your only chance to see Leafs players on the TTC. Maple Leafs star William Nylander was spotted on the subway in November and when asked about it at practice, he said he takes it regularly.

“This season I’ve taken the subway every game except for one,” Nylander said at the time. “It really just depends on traffic. Yesterday I didn’t even bother to check the traffic, I just hopped on the subway.”

Plan your commute accordingly and maybe get the chance to say hi to some of your favourite Leafs players, Toronto!
