Toronto sunsets are hitting 9 p.m. for the first time this year

Summer vibes are about to hit different in Toronto! The city is getting its very first 9 p.m. sunset of the year this Friday, and it’ll be sticking around for a few more weeks to come. Here’s what to know.

It looks like Friday the 13th isn’t bringing spooky energy but rather sunshine until late into the evening. According to The Weather Network, Toronto will experience its latest sunset of the year, offering over 15 hours of daylight.

Some may say the timing is kismet, considering the annual Taste of Little Italy kicks off on Friday and into the weekend. But it doesn’t end here.

How long will late sunsets stick around?

The sun will keep clocking out late until July 11, so you’ve got a solid month to romanticize your Toronto summer during golden hour.

Per The Weather Network, the longest day of the year lands on June 20, aka the summer solstice. That’s when we’ll hit peak daylight with a whopping 15 hours and 26 minutes of sunshine.

After that, the slow countdown to earlier sunsets begins, but for now, it’s nothing but long evenings and warm nights.

July is typically Toronto’s warmest month, with average daytime highs of 22.1°C. So yes, summer is showing up fashionably late, but she’s definitely ready to stay a while.

Though a 9 p.m. sunset sounds like a dream, other parts of the country are seeing even later sunsets. Edmonton, Alberta, is already seeing sunsets after 10 p.m.

So Toronto, grab your shades, make those patio reservations, and plan your golden hour photo ops because we’re staying up late, and so should you.

Just don’t forget the SPF.
