This Victorian home for sale is rumored to have been built for an iconic Alberta family

It certainly isn’t every day that you come across a home that may have been rooted in Alberta’s history, but here we are! Located in Lundbreck, Alberta, the Crowsnest River Retreat is rumoured to have been built for the Nephew of Sir William Lethbridge – the man that our province’s sunny southern town was actually named after.

Now, before we get into the decorative deets and the insane price tag on this country palace, let’s jump into what exactly made the Lethbridge family so notable.

Born in 1805, William Lethbridge was a managing partner of a prominent law firm, but more importantly, he was also an investor and the first president of the North-Western Coal & Navigation Company.

So why exactly did they name the town after him? Well, before it donned any familiar welcome signs, the old mining spot benefitted greatly from William’s investments.

Back then it was pretty normal for a town to be named after an investor – however, in an unusual turn, it is worth noting that Lethbridge never actually stepped foot into onto Canadian soil.

This, however, can’t be said for the rest of his family. Though we couldn’t find any confirmation of this, the stunning 5 bedrooms, 3 bathroom home is said to have been built in 1904 for a man named John Lethbridge – a descendant of William’s.

Though the home is only 2,902 ft², which is a heck of a lot smaller than the homes we usually feature, 7301 range road 2-5A Road is an absolute stunner with insane views of rolling hills and land as far as the eye can see.

It’s also been respectfully modernized and while this may not be your steez, we think that we can all appreciate the effort that’s been put into the renovations.

One thing that we will say, though, is that with 3 storeys – there are a TON of stairs and for $2 million, we could never muster up the strength to hike this much. But to each their own.
