Hold your horses! The sun is out, but that doesn’t mean the best of winter is behind us. Saddle up for what will probably be the craziest event you hear about this season- Skijordue 2020.

Neigh, that’s not a typo (we had to). Skijordue is an event that combines the absolute best of the Canadian winter sports and food. Oh, it also has plenty of cowboy flavour involved. What could be better than horses, skiing, cheese, and friends? Literally nothing, that’s what.

During this event, horse riders will pull a skier behind them to perform stunts and tricks. Skijor will compete in various categories like circuit, relay, sprint, and our personal favourite, the lounge race. That’s where they literally race on couches. People dress in their most outrageous western getups to add even more flair to what is already a flashy event.

Yeah. This is actually a thing that is happening.

While you watch the Skijors compete for a spicy prize of $10,000, feel free to stuff your face with poutine, bratwurst sausage, and fondue. If that isn’t enough to make your mouth water and freeze over like the mountain you’ll be standing on, there’s also craft beer and cocktails.

They’ll also have a dance party, a makers market, photo booths, and awards for the best dressed. This is going to be a wild afternoon, folks.

If you happen to be in or around Calgary at the moment, then you want to miss Skijordue when it all goes down this Saturday, February 22nd.
