This ’60 Minutes’ segment on Amazon from 1999 shows just how far its come (VIDEO)

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that Seattle didn’t always have mega-corporation Amazon. But if you’ve lived here a while you’ll know that the city was indeed once free of the online mogul. However, it’s worth taking a look back to see how it all began.

This 60 Minutes segment begins downtown right near everyone’s favorite Pike Place Market at the first Amazon headquarters. And it’s wild to think but in 1999, Bezos actually worked in the office with everyone else. Not to mention, the office certainly didn’t look as spiffy as the tall glass look of South Lake Union. And there wasn’t anything quite as spectacular as the Spheres.

When it comes to Bezos himself, he’s pretty normal. But you can also tell he’s extremely motivated and ready to do whatever it takes to grow. And that’s exactly what he did. After all, Amazon is a mogul. But Bezos’ biggest thing throughout this interview was his desire to live a life without regrets. And as they say, it’s lonely at the top so we wonder if he’s accomplished that lofty personal goal.

After all, the man isn’t living in a small ranch house anymore and doesn’t drive a Honda. Instead, he flys privately around the world and has armed security to take him wherever he needs. So while it’s hard to see Amazon being able to get bigger, we’re very very sure it will.
