Happy short week, Vancouver! It’s always nice to look ahead to the weekend while we’re still coming off of the May long weekend. So from outdoor concerts to this year’s Spot Prawn Festival, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this weekend (May 24-26).
The 6th Annual Sound of Dragon Music Festival is on this weekend with three genre-defying concerts and three free community events, including music jams, workshops, and live entertainment. The festival is set to redefine Chinese music through cross-cultural collaboration, so this is a great event to check out in honour of Asian Heritage Month!
The free community event planned for this weekend is entitled ‘The Arts of Erhu Music’ by Yang Xue, which visitors can check out at the Annex from 12 pm to 1 pm.

In addition to bb’s bonanza, there are a slew of outdoor concerts coming to Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl this week, including Duke Dumont on Friday, May 24th.

Tofino’s favourite taco joint just dropped a new happy hour menu and it looks tempting! They have a new $10 food menu that includes a chips and dip platter, wings, stadium nachos, and gringas along with happy hour drinks starting as low as $5! Check out the new menu and channel those beachy summer vibes.
OUROFEST is a series of dance battles and free public performances slated for May 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th, kicking off at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts with DJs ICE-B and Calgary’s Friar Funk. On May 26th, Robson Square will host public performances by Surrey’s youth dance artist Teg, Montreal’s M Queen, and a premiere by OURO Collective.
Finally, on May 27th and 28th, you can try out street dancing yourself by registering for workshops on styles like waacking and hip hop.

In honour of Asian Heritage Month, Pallet Coffee Roasters in Gastown is hosting a fun-filled eve of coffee and dim sum, with 15% of event proceeds donated to Elimin8hate – a non-profit committed to eliminating racism against Asian Canadians through the arts.

Hosted by the Chefs’ Table Society of British Columbia, the city’s Spot Prawn Festival will include live cooking demos with some of Vancouver’s top chefs, as well as live music, and activities for the whole family to enjoy.
While the festival is free to attend, you may want to splurge on their grazing-style Spot Prawn Brunch ($79 per person), which features six delicious spot prawn dishes.
If you thought bbno$ was already the coolest – check this one out. The Vancouver-born artist is throwing a benefit concert alongside a long list of friends – including Yung Gravy, Yung Bae, and Jungle Bobby – to name a few. Best of all? 100% of the proceeds are going towards the DTES Women’s Centre.

The beloved Shipyards Night Market is on every Friday from May 10th to September 13th, so get ready to enjoy the iconic beer garden and outdoor market, and peruse many mouthwatering food trucks.

The Richmond Night Market is North America’s largest outdoor market, and it’s now back in full swing! So get ready to peruse hundreds of delicious food vendors with cuisine from around the globe.

On Saturdays this May, the Rolla Skate Club is hosting Saturday Skate Nights from 5 to 7 pm, with hosted DJs to set the mood. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, it’s the perfect opportunity to lace up your skates and hit the roller rink.
