Can you believe it’s already the last week of March? The time is really flying by, so we thought we’d mix in some early spring and late winter activities into this roundup of things to do. From seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers to checking out a VR experience, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (March 27-31).
Fans of the piano will love this one. Described as a “monster pianist” by Time Out New York, Vicky Chow has scaled some of the highest levels of musicality and performance since making her orchestral debut with the VSO at the age of 10. Now, Music of Main presents a special concert on March 28th at Christ Church Cathedral, where the star pianist will perform legendary composer Philip Glass’ Piano Études, Book 1.

After the release of two #1 studio albums, a wildly successful 2022 tour, and even a recent Grammy nomination (“Black Summer”), Red Hot Chili Peppers show no signs of slowing down. And their 2023 tour across North America and Europe begins right here in Vancouver on Wednesday, March 29th.

Now past the season’s halfway mark, the Canucks are vying for a playoff spot in a very competitive division. Know what would help? Some extra fans cheering them on at home games. On Friday, March 31st, they’re taking on the Calgary Flames.

Notch8 at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is now hosting a new cherry blossom-themed afternoon tea service, complete with specialty cocktails, spring-inspired decor, and a plethora of themed treats to enjoy. Guests can choose from three seatings, available at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. Reservations can be made online from Thursdays to Sundays until May 21st.

While it’s still a little early to see all of Vancouver’s varieties of cherry blossoms, the ‘Whitcomb’ and ‘Accolade’ blossoms are already making an appearance, mostly around South Cambie, Dunbar, and Vancouver’s West End. And thankfully, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Fest has mapped out the best places to scout out some beautiful trees, which they’ve organized into an interactive map. Time to pick a neighbourhood and take a leisurely stroll!

Warm up with a bowl of stew or a hot sandwich at Lunch Bar, Kafka Gastown’s newest venture. And to sweeten the pot, the new Lunch Bar is serving up weekly stew specials for $13.50 – one vegan and one meat. And what’s more, both are served with a slice of fresh-baked focaccia.

And now, for some winter sports options. If you’re ready to take a day trip, know that Cypress Mountain has got a serious amount of snowshoe trails for you to explore before the official end of ski season.

While it’s definitely not prime biking weather, the sun has definitely made an on-and-off appearance this past month, so why not plan ahead for the sunnier days this week? The 24-Hour Pass by Mobi gives you access to e-bikes for 25¢/min for the first 30 minutes and 35¢/min thereafter.
Getting a little bored of playing video games from your couch? Why not check out the state-of-the-art facility Zero Latency VR?? They offer a variety of truly immersive experiences, ranging from solving puzzles to a shooter set within the Far Cry universe. Think of it as your local arcade’s older sibling.
