Another week in August has rolled around, and it’s bringing back the sunshine. Get ready to enjoy the Vancouver International Music Fest, a Mt. Joy concert at Deer Lake Park, The Hunger Games, and so much more. Here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (Aug 18-22).
Feel the power and artistry of classical music at this year’s Vancouver International Music Fest, which brings daily concerts, recitals, and workshops for both children and adults to the VSO School of Music and the Vancouver Playhouse. Guests will find instrumental categories of piano, violin, cello, harp, guzheng, erhu, piano duo/duet, concerto, and chamber music.

It’s the 10th anniversary of Canada’s largest outdoor movie series, AKA Evo Summer Cinema. This week, they’re screening The Hunger Games with free, first-come, first-served seating available at Second Beach.

Mt. Joy is performing at Deer Lake Park this week, and we think their soulful sound is the perfect match for the natural scenery here. He’ll be joined by guest performers Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners.

East Van Brewing is hosting a fun-filled Paint & Sip night where you’ll be guided to create (and take home) a masterpiece of your own creation. You don’t need to be a skilled or experienced artist to pick up a paintbrush and take part in this social event!

The 2025 Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is in full swing, and you can check out one of four iconic productions: Much Ado About Nothing, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] [again], and The Dark Lady.

All week long (and on the weekend), the Vancouver Canadians are up against the Tri-City Dust Devils at the Nat. Grab your pals and settle in for a game to mark the end of summer.

North Van’s Deckchair Cinema is screening Starman by John Carpenter, which will start at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025. The screening will be preceded by a live performance from Big City and the West Coast premiere of Morgan Abele’s short film Sounds of Glass.
