Happy Thursday! Edmonton’s forecast is calling for a weird little bit of weather this weekend, but we’re not about to let it rain on our parade. There’s some great options for activities around the city, from big festivals to a little bit of local fun. Let’s see what’s in store!
Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this weekend.
EDMONTON OILERS VS. CALGARY FLAMES
The past little bit has been, well, not so great for the Oilers. But, we think another round of the Battle of Alberta is exactly the kind of gritty challenge they need to get back on track. Fingers crossed that we’re right!

EDMONTON PET EXPO
Thinking that Fido is overdue for a new treat or toy? You might want to check out the Edmonton Pet Expo, which returns to the city this weekend after a hiatus last year! There will be events, showcases, and of course, a whole bunch of pet-related vendors to shop around at!

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA
A new exhibition arrives at the AGA this weekend! Admittedly not the most happy go lucky of options, Inheritance is a group show focusing on the legacies of racism in both social and institutional ways. But, we like it when art actually makes us think just as much as being pretty, so we definitely think it’s worthwhile.
When: Opens Saturday, January 22nd
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14
CHECK OUT CULINA ON THE LAKE
Hawrelak Park has no shortage of winter activities to enjoy, from hiking to skating and even cross-country skiing. Whatever you end up doing, make sure to swing by the Culina on the Lake patio for some delicious eats and adult beverages once you’re done.
When: Open Wednesday to Sunday weekly
Where: 9330 Groat Road NW
LASER FLOYD: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
Is a laser show a piece of art? We’re going to go ahead and say yes. Every weekend, the Telus World of Science hosts a nostalgic (but still stunning) laser show set to, really, the best band for it- Pink Floyd. Whether you’ve been a fan of their music for years, or want to try something new, this is a great option.
When: Fridays and Saturdays throughout January
Where: 11211 142 Street NW
Cost: $14.95 for GA
HOT BOY SUMMER: THE MUSICAL
Want to get a couple of laughs in this week? You might be interested in the extended run of this comedy musical put on by the Grindstone Theatre. Enjoy a satirical look at the past few months/years in the province, through the lens of a year-end university party.
When: Showtimes throughout the week
Where: 10045 156 Street NW

CHINATOWN DINING WEEK
This is your last chance to check out Chinatown Dining Week! This neighbourhood food festival offers a ton of delicious dining options, and all for $18 or less. Things wrap up this weekend, and we highly suggest you take advantage while it’s still on.
When: Ends Sunday, January 23rd
Where: Locations around Edmonton
GO SKATING
One thing’s for sure- Edmonton’s skating rinks are going to be frozen solid for quite some time. Bring a Thermos of hot chocolate with you, go for a skate, and then really feel like you earned a night inside binge-watching movies or TV shows. That’s what we do, at least.
When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: All around Edmonton
That’s what we’ve got in mind for this weekend, folks! We hope you can have some fun out there!
