While it’s not a de facto, hard science ranking, U-Haul’s new list of growth cities in Canada does have a pretty smart way of making the claim. Every year, the moving company tracks one-way U-Haul truck rentals, along with the final destination city. Let’s see what they found!
Turns out, a city in Northern Ontario called North Bay took the top spot, with 57.5% of all trips being arrivals. Located under 4 hours away from both Toronto and Ottawa, we can see how this city is a prime location for future growth.

Now, let’s check out the rest of the top 10.
Well, seems like BC and Ontario have pretty much locked down the one-way U-Haul businesses, at the very least. In fact, these two provinces account for more of the top 25 growth cities than the rest of Canada on the list.
Now, we will say that 2020 was a crazy year, so it will be interesting to see if these trends change at all during 2021. Personally, we want to see the northern provinces and territories get some more love. We don’t know what we’d do up there, but it would sure be an adventure.
