The Seattle Black Film Festival returns this month & here’s what to expect

Love going to the movies? You’re in luck because the 20th annual Seattle Black Film Festival returns in person this month at Langston Hughes Theater. Here’s a look at this year’s film lineup and what to expect from this year’s festival.

For 2023, there are screenings both in person and virtually through Eventive. As always the festival showcases Black Brilliance in film and features local, national, and international films.

The festival runs from April 22nd to 30th and has a diverse lineup of over 50 films. There will be West Coast premieres, an all-ages selection for families, an LGBTQ block, and talkbacks with visiting filmmakers. Here’s a look at a few key events and screenings.

On April 22nd, guests will be able to preview Rick DuPree’s upcoming documentary about the Seattle chapter of the Black Panther Party – Seattle Black Panthers Fight for Justice & Freedom. DuPree will be in attendance as well as several esteemed members of the Party.

On April 27th, Seattle artist Tariqa Waters (of Martyr Sauce) will host a screening of her film THANK YOU MS. PAM, along with live performances.

On April 30th, guests can view the closing night screening of What the Funk: A Love Letter to the POC Community – a documentary about the Pacific Northwest’s first all-POC burlesque festival. The screening will end with a burlesque show by Mx. Pux A Plenty.

Passes cost $60-$120 and individual tickets cost $15. Tickets are on sale now.
