Toronto’s new trail has an elevated boardwalk & will be part of Canada’s largest linear parks

There’s a brand new multi-use trail connection in Toronto’s east end that’s surrounded by a picturesque meadow and has an elevated boardwalk, perfect for fall hikes. Here’s what to know about the new Meadoway Trail.

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority announced the grand opening of its exciting new trail connection in The Meadoway at Highland Creek.

According to the TRCA, it’s a two-kilometre multi-use trail that is surrounded by 16 hectares of “restored meadow” that connects Military Trail to Neilson Avenue.

During the fall season, you can enjoy the picture-perfect scenery as you find yourself walking along its pedestrian bridge and elevated boardwalk. You’ll then wind through a “scenic switchback that showcases the beauty of the surrounding community and valley.”

“The opening of the new trail connection in The Meadoway marks a significant milestone for our city. It not only offers a beautiful and accessible space for residents and visitors to enjoy but also demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to our environment,” said Jennifer McKelvie, Deputy Mayor of Toronto in a release.

“The trail will unite neighbourhoods and promote a deeper connection between our communities and the natural world.”

And if you didn’t already know, the trail connection is actually part of The Meadoway project. This initiative aims to change an underutilized hydro corridor in Scarborough and form one of the region’s largest greenspaces.

Once the project is completed, it will become one of Canada’s largest linear urban parks, creating a natural path between Rouge National Urban Park and downtown Toronto.
