Everything we know (so far) about ‘The Last Of Us’ season 2

It’s been a while since we’ve had our weekly dose of fungi and drama and it hasn’t been easy – but don’t fret, because this feeling won’t last forever! Season 2 of The Last of Us is in the works and here’s everything that we know about it so far.

Based on a popular video game of the same name, TLOUS2 will star Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Joel, a hardened smuggler looking for redemption after he meets Ellie (Bella Ramsay), a young girl he was tasked with escorting across post-apocalyptic America.

With a whopping 96% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the HBO series has become a worldwide phenomenon but for Canadians, more specifically, those in Alberta, it hit a little closer to home.

Shot entirely in the Wild Rose Province – Calgary, Edmonton, Canmore, High River and Okotoks are just a few spots that were featured on screen, with many hoping that the crew would return to the area for season 2.

Sadly, for anyone in Alberta, production and the show’s cast, which also includes Gabriel Luna (Tommy) and Rutina Wesley (Maria), will be moving to Vancouver instead.

This, of course, shouldn’t be that surprising to fans, because the second video game installment takes place primarily in Seattle.

As for when they’ll start filming and how soon we’ll get to see it?

“I think we’ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next,” Bella Ramsey recently revealed on The Jonathan Ross Show. “It’ll probably be the end of 2024, early 2025.”

This may sound like a lifetime away but it’ll fly by with much to look forward to, including a few changes that will be unfamiliar to lovers of the game.

“It will be different just as this season was different,” showrunner Craig Mazin said, according to EW.

“Sometimes it will be different radically, and sometimes it will be [barely] different at all. But it’s going to be different and it will be its own thing. It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil and I want to make.”

Other things you can expect include an aged-up Ellie, who will be 19 in the second season, more clickers, more blood, and certainly more tears.

As of right now, we don’t have an exact release date, but we’ll be waiting, watching and wishing it to come sooner with all of you.

Until then, when you’re lost in the darkness, look for the light! The Last Of Us season 2 is coming and we can’t wait!
