If you’ve never been to a Halluci Nation show before, you’re seriously missing out.
For us lucky ducks in Calgary, you won’t have long to wait. The Indigenous EDM group will be landing at Commonwealth on Nov. 15.
Bringing the energy and the good vibes to the dance floor, this group make some of the most heart-pounding electronic dance music in the genre.
It’s all accompanied by stunning visuals and dancers, with a focus on sharing and elevating Indigenous culture.
You’ll be stomping your feet along to the beat in no time at this high-energy show. For dancers and ravers alike, it’s a can’t-miss.
The Halluci Nation (formerly performing under the moniker A Tribe Called Red) are a two-part Indigenous DJ group led by Bear Witness and Tim “2oolman” Hill.
Their music has been called “powwow-step,” a play on dubstep that’s informed by their Indigenous heritage and a focus on truth and reconciliation.
In 2025, The Halluci Nation became the first independent Indigenous artists from North America to reach 100+ million streams on Spotify. The group has also won three Juno awards.
Their name is derived from a phrase coined by John Trudell to describe a vast global community that centres what it means to be human at the core of their being.
The group’s 2021 album, One More Saturday Night, is a self-professed love letter to the Electric Pow Wow gatherings launched at Babylon nightclub in Ottawa in 2007.
An “electric powwow” is a good way to describe the Halluci Nation’s live show, which includes samples from Indigenous song, art, and culture reinterpreted through hard-hitting dance music.
Many songs combine elements of First Nations music, including chanting and drumming, with contemporary EDM, a combination that’s truly electrifying.
Often accompanying the Halluci Nation’s performances are Indigenous dancers from local nations, creating an immersive, in-depth exploration of Indigenous strength, power and resilience.
“It’s a project that people can dance to, but it still has the strong message we are known for,” said Bear Witness in a press release. “This time we wanted to show it through a bit of a different lens to help further push the conversation about Indigenous representation and how we can all impact change.”
Although the group has been performing live since 2007, they aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
“We are at a point where we are making music we love, that is inspired by our everyday lives and all the incredible people that we have been lucky to surround ourselves with,” said Bear. “This isn’t even a fraction of it… We’ve got so much more coming.”
This is the start of a new chapter for the Halluci Nation, and local Calgarians are invited to be a part of it at the group’s upcoming show on Nov. 15. We can’t wait!
