The Glenbow Museum just announced a FREE exhibit opening in March 2022

It’s only been a few months since Calgary’s Glenbow Museum announced that it would temporarily close its doors ahead of a major renovation, but we’re already missing it dearly.

Luckily, for those looking for an art attack, the attraction has just released new details regarding a shot-term exhibition space meant to “inject some fresh colour into downtown Calgary” until they reopen in 2024.

“We are repurposing some underused office space in one of downtown Calgary’s iconic office towers, to build a place where we can connect in-person with Calgarians and continue to share art and culture experiences while our own building is under renovation,” wrote Nicholas Bell, Glenbow President & CEO in a press release.

The best part? This gallery will be totally FREE to attend thanks to the folks at the Downtown Calgary Association, so you can wander as you please!

“We want to invite Calgarians back to a thriving, vibrant downtown core. We’ve all been missing the feeling of community we gain from shared social interactions and accessible cultural experiences,” said Jennifer Rempel, General Manager of the Calgary Downtown Association.

If you’d like to check it out, their first exhibition Uninvited: Canadian Women Artists in the Modern Moment opens to the public this mark with over 200 pieces created by sculptors, photographers, painters, architects, and filmmakers.

According to the museum, this landmark gallery will showcase works made by their Indigenous female contemporaries, “for a cross-country snapshot of female creativity in the dynamic modern moment of the early 20th century,” which sounds pretty incredible, so don’t miss it!
