Calgary, we’ve got some dino-myte news coming at ya! There’s no secret that the Calgary Zoo is one of the city’s best attractions, but now- they’ve taken a trip back to prehistoric times with a stellar new exhibit. Calgary, meet Dinosaurs: Awakened.

Dinosaurs: Awakened is located in the newly designed Prehistoric Park at the Calgary Zoo. Included in general admission for timed tickets, this new exhibit is a definite must-see in Calgary.

Dinosaurs: Awakened is designed to not only educate and entertain, but take you on a trip back in time. It’s like Jurassic Park, but with a lot less screaming and a lot more fun. To think about it, there won’t actually be any screaming- unless it’s screams of joy!

So, here’s the scoop. Walk through the exhibit and watch for triceratops grazing amongst the bushes, then look up to see a fearsome T-Rex’s banana-sized teeth ready to tear into his next meal. And as you marvel at the sights & sounds of these animatronic dinos, you’ll be transported back to a time when dinos roamed the earth.

And by earth, we mean Alberta, ‘cause if you didn’t know- our province has some pretty insane dino-related history. Here’s the scoop on the Land of the Dinosaurs.

Back in the Cretaceous Period (not Jurassic, the movie title is wrong people), Alberta was a warmer, lusher place, with large rivers and diverse and abundant plant life. Large herbivorous dinosaurs thrived, until they were preyed on and turned into lunch for their meat-eating cousins. When the dinosaurs died, their bones were often fossilized, resulting in the massive amount of dinosaur remains found in Alberta today. The more you know, right kids?!

So there’s the deal with the Calgary Zoo’s newest exhibit! See ya there, Calgary!
