The brand new Toronto Sign was unveiled this morning!

The new Toronto Sign has just been unveiled and it looks…drumroll please… exactly the same. Alright, alright, there are some minor changes. But for the most part, it’s a more durable version of the classic attraction we’ve all grown to love. Why fix what isn’t broken, right?

The new sign comes as a result of the city’s attachment to the Toronto sign that has called Nathan Phillips Square its home for the past few years. Although it was only supposed to be up for a couple weeks during the 2015 Pan Am Games, Toronto loved it so much those few weeks turned into five years. Of course, it wasn’t originally built to last, so this replacement fixes any issues that came up over the course of the old sign’s lifespan.

The new sign is made with much more durable material, a new lighting system, and a waterproof and graffiti-resistant exterior. Plus, it features a brand new vinyl wrap that will be switched out every year.

This year, the vinyl wrap is celebrating Toronto’s Black community. It features a gorgeous design by local artist Danilo Deluxo McCallum. He’s used African colours and cultural symbols to create a spread focused on moving forward while remembering the past. The work is timely and poignant and will make a great addition to the beloved landmark.

So next time you’re in the area, stop by a check out the new Toronto Sign! It’s another amazing feature of this glorious city we get to call home.
