This BC park is home to ‘one of the most magnificent river systems on earth’

Ready to explore the province’s northwesternmost gems? It’s time to add Tatshenshini-Alsek Park to your bucket list his year. Home to one of the most magnificent river systems on earth, the park has plenty of outdoor recreation for every type of nature lover to enjoy.

Located on the traditional lands of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, the park was once part of numerous First Nation fishing villages along the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers.

According to BC Parks, it consists of everything from glaciers to wild rivers, to unusual plant communities. In fact, the varied geology and great elevation changes have created an “exceptionally diverse range of habitat conditions.”

Despite its rugged, remote location, Tatshenshini-Alsek is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kayakers and rafters are drawn to the two wild river systems, hikers can explore endless alpine meadows and the highest peak in BC (4,633 metres), and mountain bikers can traverse old mining roads.
